Bio
Dylan Reisch is a singer-songwriter, with guitar his first love and gateway into the world of composition. He writes songs about the complicated business of being human with a signature of hope. His solo work can be described as alt-folk and pop-punk-influenced but ultimately reflects his eclectic taste accumulated over a decade of making music.
Dylan first started writing songs and playing guitar at the pivotal age of 14, where his inspiration ranged from the girls at school to cool and weird fantastical monsters and ancient myths. The world changed and he grew up, but some things stayed the same.
In 2008 Dylan travelled to Canada for a few weeks to meet up with friends and ended up staying there for almost eight years. In Toronto he founded the jazz and blues driven band Bastard Sunshine, later joined the psychedelic alt-rock outfit Duck Duck Goose (née Shoot the Stork) and got signed as a solo artist by indie label New Media Records (RIP). He played an extensive range of live shows during this period, including music festivals, corporate events, small venues and parties.
After returning home to Sydney in 2016, Dylan graduated from AIM with a Bachelor of Music in Composition & Music Production. He has continued performing as a solo artist whilst keeping busy with a number of side projects and collaborations. These have included neo-folk four-piece band Goodmonster, country music duo Dylan & Al, making the discovery that rapping is both fun AND cathartic, and collaborating with indie Canadian artist J9 and Melbourne-based electro-punk band Hardwaters.
While the surreal nature of 2020 saw Dylan performing in the cheese section at a supermarket while venues were closed due to Covid, it also created more space for writing and producing. Dylan has a new EP titled Same Dream due for release in 2022 which he hopes to play for you soon, live at your local.
Other things I do…
Dylan & Al
In 2017 I answered an ad on Airtasker asking for “someone to play music with”, without realising that this would be the start of a great friendship and collaboration with Al Crew. With a passion for country music and previous career in advertising, Al has written a host of catchy and clever country music songs which I have arranged and that we perform together.
Goodmonster
Goodmonster is neo-folk fourpiece band I started in Sydney in 2019. Our songs contain imagery of post-apocalyptic wastelands, broken relationships, the sea, and the great beyond; with a focus on heartfelt storytelling and a huge, atmospheric sound. Influences include (but are not limited to) Cigarettes After Sex, Father John Misty, Soul Coughing and Mother Mother.
Hardwaters
Hardwaters make gritty feminist anthems balanced by crooning sex positivity. This is a punk rock band that goes down easy.
My remix “Mixed Up” breathes new life into an existing self-titled EP by Hardwaters. Think electro punk vibes and butt-jigglingly fun bass lines. It features one extra track ‘Nacho Study’, electro remixes of ‘Us’, ‘Shake the hope’ & ‘Runaway’, and a hip hop revival of ‘Tie me up’.
